It is a middle-class neighborhood in the Central Zone of Rio. It has a great variety of bars, restaurants, nightclubs and theme themed pubs that cater to all audiences. Being known as the "cradle" of the Rio bohemia.
 
It is also famous for architecture, starting with the Carioca Aqueduct, its main reference and postcard. It was built to function as an aqueduct in the times of Colonial Brazil, and since 1896, it serves as a road for the tram, which connects downtown to the Santa Tereza neighborhood, another tourist district.
